Rick is a stage director who is drawn to heightened texts, ensemble-driven stories, unexpected places, and live music. He gravitates to big ideas in dynamic configurations. If he can put music into a show, he will. If he can find a way to transform a space, he will. If there’s a way to surprise an audience by breaking a rule, he most definitely will. If it’s epic, he’s all in. Rick is often asked to direct Shakespeare, Moliere, musicals, and Southern-based plays. All of these require an understanding of pace, pitch, language, movement, and a heightened emotional state for actors. A product of the company model, Rick appreciates the strength found in an ensemble of artists who work together consistently. He wants to collaborate with actors who have points of view and bring their lived experiences to roles. He wants to work with designers who push the boundaries of space and are also great dramaturgs. He works diligently to create a process and rehearsal room where everyone feels safe and comfortable bringing their whole selves. He’s energetic, funny, caring, and inventive.

His wish list of projects includes: The Kentucky Cycle, My Fair Lady, Evita, Airline Highway, Detroit, A Civil War Christmas, Uncle Vanya, Ragtime, Girl from the North Country, To Master the Art, Book of Will, Of Mice & Men.

Rick is a graduate of Brown University/Trinity Rep with an MFA in Acting and is a proud member of the Society of Directors and Choreographers. He is represented by Charles Kopelman, A3.
